March Astro Forecast by Hamida Judith Dides

Pisces

The month of March is named after Mars the Roman god for war, guardian of agriculture and ancestor of the Roman people. Appropriately, it was the first month of the Roman year because it is when the Spring Equinox occurs, represented as the 0 Aries point on the zodiacal wheel. To learn more about this, come to my talk here at Songbird Thursday March 19 at 7:30.

We begin the month in the last sign of the zodiac – Pisces. So this month represents the Alpha and Omega (beginning and ending) of the year except that it is more like the omega and the alpha. At the Spring Equinox on March 20, we will go into Aries.

The Pisces/Virgo axis represents a number of archetypes including service and work. Most people work ‘because they have to’ ie to make money. Unfortunately, this leads to a lot of unhappiness that is covered up with consumerism, addiction, depression etc. When you can see your work as service to yourself and humanity it will become more meaningful. No matter what you do, if you can bring more meaning to it, you will get energy from doing it rather than be drained by it.

When we move into Aries whose opposite pole is Libra, we are into a very different set of archetypes. In this case it is individuality vs others, I/thou, having vs sharing. If we don’t learn to have more consciousness for ourselves as part of humanity and to understand that whatever happens to anyone, happens to all of us, things will continue to deteriorate.

This March will be one of the most eventful months of the year.

On March 15, also known as the ‘Ides of March’, Saturn will station retrograde. In Rome, March 15 was a day of religious celebration and the day that was chosen to assassinate Julius Caesar in 44 BC. Saturn, which only recently transited into Sagittarius, will go backwards revisiting Scorpio for awhile then turn direct in August. Saturn just wants to make sure we have finished all the Scorpio work before fully committing to the expansiveness of Sagittarius. So, take this opportunity to revisit any outmoded beliefs about power and powerlessness, commitment, and all the taboos of life: especially sex and death.

The next day, March 16, we have the last of 7 exact squares between Uranus and Pluto which began in 2012. You all remember 2012, when the world ended? In general squares represent challenges to whatever was seeded during the last conjunction. In this case, the last conjunction of Uranus and Pluto was between 1964 and 1968. Anyone remember what was going on then? They say if you remember, you weren’t ‘there’. “Tune in, Turn on, Drop out” was one of the popular slogans of the day.

Turmoil, social change, radical ideas, upheaval on all levels of society. Many of the positive changes that we take for granted now, started then. We seem to be revisiting a lot of it. What was a period signaling (we thought) the advent of the Age of Aquarius has led to, in many cases, even harsher repression and backlash. On the one hand sex change operations are more acceptable, but on the other more trans women of color are being murdered. Sorry guys, being a woman is not that much fun. Now you get to be the victim of domestic violence too.

Many of the social programs started by President Johnson are being cut back or stretched thin. If people are not working and paying taxes, there isn’t anyone to fund them. Not to mention the fact that the richest pay no taxes at all. So where does the money come from? Thank God for foodstamps since there are 47 million people using them in the US. Oh and now, they are going to have foodstamps in Greece. Is that progress? Meanwhile the price of food rises weekly.

We are again at war. What happened to “Make Love not War”? In fact, we have been at war for 14 years and it looks like this is endless. I’ve heard it said that the only reason the cold war was cold was due to nuclear weapons. The U.S. and the Soviet Union both recognized the threat and kept things from getting out of hand, but now…we seem to have reverted to complete barbarism.

Hopefully the saying: “the darkest hour is just before dawn” is true. We need to hit the reset button.

On March 20 we have a New Moon, Solar Eclipse and the ingress into the sign Aries. Time for a new start. The beginning of a new cycle.

Jupiter in Leo will continue to be retrograde throughout the month. This combined with Neptune in Pisces can be a fruitful time for creativity of all kinds. If you already are an artist, musician, writer or any other kind of maker and creator, you will probably find yourself brimming with ideas. As a jewelry maker, this Jupiter in Leo has given me so many ideas for projects there isn’t enough time in a day to make them all. See some examples of my work at www.silkroadsoutache.com

Spring is typically when the animal and plant kingdoms reawaken. Lambs are born, flower bloom, birds sing. I suggest you let Spring into your heart and mind by making a fresh start on all those New Year’s Resolutions you made and probably forgot by now. Renew your intentions to exercise more, restart your meditation practice, eat more consciously.

Creativity need not cost a lot of money. Everything starts with the first step. Take a step, then another. If you find yourself somewhere you don’t want to be, change course. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. The biggest mistake is doing nothing.
